Creating a coastal spa destination to drive year-round occupancy

The Opportunity

Donegal Boardwalk, set on the Atlantic coast of Ireland, is a luxury development of cottages, apartments and a restaurant positioned within a stunning bay and connected by a mile-long boardwalk to the beach.

Under new ownership, there was a clear ambition to reposition the site as a leading destination resort in Ireland. However, with the realities of the west coast climate, the challenge was how to create consistent appeal and drive occupancy beyond seasonal demand.

Spa Creators demonstrated there was a key opportunity to introduce a high-quality spa and wellness facility to enhance the guest offering, increase dwell time, and attract both residents and day visitors.

Our Solution

Recognising Spa Creators’ commercial approach and proven expertise, they were appointed to develop the spa concept, business plan and lead the project from design through to delivery, working alongside the appointed architect. Designed for both resort guests and day visitors, the spa offers a boutique coastal wellness experience rooted in its natural surroundings. A modern Scandinavian aesthetic, paired with natural materials and expansive glazing, creates a seamless indoor-outdoor connection while maximising views across the bay.

The spa includes:

• Reception and relaxation lounge
• 4 treatment rooms
  Male and female changing facilities
• Wet spa
• Rooftop lounge with panoramic coastal views
• Outdoor hot tub and thermal experiences, with future plans for seaweed bathing

Spa Creators remained involved throughout the 18-month development, supporting spa operations setup, including recruitment of the spa manager and team, treatment brand selection, and pre-opening marketing.
