Spas have long played an important part in the pre-wedding ritual. The perfect place to relax and unwind before the big day, spas can give brides-to-be some much-needed pampering and provide them with a space to bond with friends and family.
In recent years, spas have also become a popular choice for hen parties. With younger generations drinking less and placing more value on wellness, spas offer the perfect setting for an alcohol-free celebration.
New Generations, New Priorities
Younger generations are drinking far less alcohol than their parents and grandparents. According to a recent World Finance report, Gen Zers (born 1997 to 2013) drink around 20% less than Millennials (born 1981 to 1996). What’s more, around one third of those aged 18 to 24 don’t drink at all.
Some of this comes down to an increased awareness of the negative impact of alcohol on both physical and mental health. Younger people often have a better understanding of how drinking can affect common issues like depression and anxiety. They may also be more aware of their physical appearance – and the toll alcohol can take on it – thanks to social media.
Hen Party Alternatives
With more people avoiding alcohol, or drinking less, there’s been an increase in brides and maids of honour looking for alternative hen party ideas. According to recent research, only 10% of people would turn down an invitation to an alcohol-free hen party, while an impressive 60% would jump at the chance to attend a booze-free bash.
One of the most popular alcohol-free hen party options is a spa day, or spa weekend. While some people may choose to enjoy a glass of prosecco, alcohol is in no way central to the experience and guests who don’t want to drink will still have a fantastic day out.
Wellness Activities
As younger generations turn away from alcohol, they turn towards wellbeing. More and more brides-to-be are choosing activities that are designed to enhance wellness, giving them some much-needed energy before their big day.
As well as being alcohol-free, spa breaks boost wellbeing and can be very beneficial for both physical and mental health. Perfect for those feeling the strain of planning a wedding, and anyone who wants to relax, unwind and spend some quality time with friends and family, a spa break can help women of all generations make memories that will last forever.
Flexibility
Another benefit of spa days is that they can be adapted to suit a range of tastes and budgets. Some guests could pay extra for special treatment and experiences, while others can simply enjoy the luxurious facilities on offer. This flexibility is ideal for hen parties as a lot of the time, guests are working to different budgets.
Pre-Wedding Preparation
As well as hen parties, spas can be used as venues for pre-wedding preparation. Staying in a spa the night before their wedding can help brides-to-be to relax and ensure they’re feeling refreshed, energetic and ready for their big day.
